YWCA Fort Canning

Away from the busy city, just right behind where the old park mall was (currently know as "9 Penang Road"), there is this hotel called the YWCA Fort Canning.

Not as elegant and luxury as the big 5 stars hotels, but this could be your next get away stay with peaceful environment and spacious room space.

Opposite the hotel was the famous Fort Canning Park where you can enjoy your brisk walk with your partner in the morning or in the evening.

This hotel hold up to 175 rooms including standard deluxe rooms, executive rooms, family rooms, quad rooms, and suite rooms with great views.

A must try omu pasta. It looked amazingly pretty and so sexy! The Omelette was on the of the pasta and covered almost the whole plate.

Aerotel Singapore (Transit Hotel)

** IMPORTANT NOTE **

Aerotel Singapore is a transit hotel located inside the airport immigration/custom area (airside), Terminal 1, departure hall, right above Gate 40 or 41, level 3. For transiting and non transiting passengers without a valid boarding pass for next flight are to stay inside the immigration area. DO NOT CLEAR and exit the immigration or custom or whatever you called it if you have a booking for this transit hotel.

If you have any check-in baggage, you can just forget it for a while. All your check in bags will be on the rotating belt after you clear the immigration. So meaning, if you are going to stay in this transit hotel and unable to clear the custom, you gonna part with it until you check out of your hotel and clear the custom and proceed to the baggage claim counter to claim back your bags.

Please take note that you will not be able to bring your 20kg big bags into the immigration by hand carrying. So, please do not waste anytime clearing the custom and collect the bags which later on found out that it's a waste of effort as you are not able to bring it inside and have to wait for the airline counter to open at a certain time.

Please be aware that if you do not have a valid next flight boarding passes, you will not be able to re-enter the immigration/custom again if you have exited.

When this happens, there will be no point of arguing with either the airline, airport or the hotel. There's nothing much the airline can do as their counter will only opens at a certain timing. there's nothing much the immigration can do as you do not have a boarding pass. There's nothing much the hotel can do as you cannot enter the immigration.

So, please read the policy, terms and condition very carefully on the booking webpage before you book a room with a transit hotel.

Duration of Stay

Booking for transit hotel do not go by nights even if you see on most online booking platform which stats per night. Their booking is by hours (as shown in the screenshot below on the top left corner) and minimum booking is 6 hours. You can extend by hourly over the counter and payment to be make directly.

Breakfast / Meal


Breakfast as stated in the booking are not exactly a breakfast. Please do not expect a full buffet breakfast spread like what you have in all hotels in the city. In this transit hotel, they will served you with ala carte meal which you can order from a menu provided by the reception. There are 8 choices to choose from at anytime of your stay or even after you have checked out.

Meal(s) will be served in a dining lounge right behind the reception counter.

Rooms


Rooms here are pretty decent. For a short nap and go, shower and a quick meal for a long transit hours, there is nothing much for one person to ask for.

I have got myself a double room which they called it. It came with an attached bathroom, which the other room type has to share 4 units of common bathroom.

I am also lucky to get a room with window as I was told that rooms with window are very limited.

The window in the room was pretty a small one but would do the trick. It faces the runway. If you are a light sleeper. Please get a room with no window.

The sound of the airplanes taking off and landing might be an issue.

Simple Room Amenities

Solo Room / Budget Room

If you are alone, on tight budget, need a nap badly and doesn't matter using a common bathroom. Solo / Budget room might be a good choice for you.

At the end of the corridor, you can see 4 units of bathroom shared among these budget room.

Swimming Pool


You will be able to use the swimming pool for free if you are staying with Aerotel. If you are not, you will need to pay a small fee to use the swimming pool.

Last entry to the swimming pool will be at 11:30pm and they will close at 12am and opens again the next day at 6am.

At the left side of the reception counter, you will be able to see a circular shaped glass door and that's the entrance to the pool.

Pan Pacific Serviced Suite Bangkok

It was a Thursday evening we arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport, Bangkok. I had booked a room in Pan Pacific Serviced Suite which is situated near a sky train station called thong lor.

The distance from the airport to thong lor took about 30 to 45 mins depending on the traffic by cab.  As we arrived on a weekday evening, the traffic was really smooth.

The total rates of the cab cost around 225 baht, including a 50 baht surcharge from out of airport. For the rates we were paying, it's definitely a lot cheaper than many other countries. The hotel is located about 15 mins away from thong lor sky train station. Walking under the hot sun in Bangkok is no joke. 

When we reached the Serviced Suite lobby, we were greeted by the bellman at the driveway. While we proceed into the lobby, we were again greeted by 2 receptionists. The check in process was fast and smooth, clear explanation were given to us upon check in. The corridor along the rooms are really comfortable and clean. The room that we had is a 2 bedroom suite, the floor area is approximately 118sqm. When we entered the room was the holding area.

On the left was the laundry room in case you need to do some laundry, front load washing machine and a dryer. Next to it is the bathroom and on the right is the 2nd bedroom.

Walking towards the living room, you will find a well equipped kitchen in case you decided to make your own dinner like i did. The living room was really nice for us to gather after dinner for a chat and tv.

The master bedroom is really big and nice.. Comfortable bed and access to the big balcony (Which you can access from the living room as well).

Me and my wife likes the balcony a lot. At night, we will sit there enjoying our wine and looking at the stars.

Swimming pool was really nice, early morning swim after gym is the best and follow by a wonderful breakfast they served in the lounge on the 11th floor. On the far end side of the pool, you can find a Jacuzzi, just on the switch to start using and off it after that. The depth of the swimming pool is only 1.3m, so it's pretty safe i guess. 

Wireless is smooth but if you are carrying more than 2 devices, that might be a problem. I was told that each of us in the room could log on to 2 devices. So, we should be able to log on to 8 devices since we are 4 person in total, but we could only log onto 3 devices.
